  • 1 - What contoroll name means?

    We have chosen this name because we wanted to point to the fact that contoroll makes it easy to controll your accounts, you will have a better view about your spendings, you will know what to monitor if you want to save money more effectively. Softwares with similar functionality are usually named as expense tracker, cost planning or budgeting applications.

    Because it is free. Because it is easy to use. Because you can use it without installing it to your desktop PC, laptop, tablet, phablet, smartphone. Because it has loads of functions. Because it can be fully customised.

  • Security

  • 1 - Is my uploaded data protected?

    The security of your data is just as important for us as for yourself. You can reach our service via SSL connection, and we do our best to avoid unathorized access to your password-protected data. You need only an e-mail address for registration. It is recommended to use a mailbox which does not contain your name.

  • 2 - What happens to my uploaded statements?

    Your statement will be transformed to a unified structure, so that data from different banks can be handled together. After the import we delete your uploaded files! (It is recommended to store a copy of your files on a safe drive if your bank does not support downloads for previous periods.)

  • 3 - What does amended statement mean?

    It is understood that you don't want to share your income details, to be honest we do not want to know it. This is why we kindly ask you to modify the details in your statement which can be used for identifying you or your financial partner (like name, account nr, address, etc.) So if somehow unathorized persons could access your data, they cannot decide if those reflect reality - you will be the only person who can know that. Of course you do not need to check and amend several hundreds of your transactions, we provide some help here.

  • 4 - Can contoroll access my bank account?

    No. Contoroll.com can process only the statements uploaded by you, it cannot connect to your bank.

  • 5 - Can I transfer money via contoroll?

    No. Contoroll only imports your statements, it is not able to make money transfers.

    Using of contoroll.com is totally free. You do not need to pay for registration or for using it.

  • Login with Facebook

  • 1 - What does 'Login with Facebook' mean?

    +

    Contoroll facilitates registration or signing in to the service through your Facebook profile. This means it is not necessary to step through registration process, you can simply click a few times in order to start using contoroll.

  • 2 - If I sign in to contoroll with my Facebook, will my friends (or others) be able to see this on Facebook?

    No. When you use 'Login with Facebook' in order to log in to contoroll, no information will be available on Facebook about your activity in contoroll.

  • 3 - If I sign in to contoroll with my Facebook, will my transactions get to Facebook?

    No. Personal data of our users will not be available on Facebook in any way. 'Login with Facebook' function is created onlyfor identifying your contoroll profile.

  • 4 - If I sign in to contoroll with my Facebook, will contoroll send posts to my Facebook profile?

    No. We do not ask for your authorization to do this, so Facebook rules out this function in this case.

  • 5 - Why does contoroll ask approval to access my public profile and e-mail address?

    No matter if you apply standard registration or 'Login with Facebook' you always have to be identified to use contoroll, this is why we need these data.

  • Usage

  • 1 - What do I need for using contoroll.com?

    You just need a real e-mail address, where we can send confirmation letter to. We recommend you to use an e-mailbox which does not contain your name, your company or any other real personal details.

  • 2 - Will I receive spams or advertisements in my registration mailbox?

    No, we also hate receiving this kind of letters. We plan to use your registration address for informing you about changes in our services.

  • 3 - If I want to use contoroll.com, what obligations do I have?

    Please handle carefully your password and the content of your statements, so that your or other persons' financial data cannot be retrieved. Please read carefully our Terms and Conditions!

  • 4 - How can I enter my incomes and spendings into contoroll?

    Basically we offer two methods: you can enter your transactions manually (just like if you would book them into your notebook), or you can download a statement from your netbank, which contains all of your electronic transactions (transfers, collections, purchases mad with your credit card, etc.) - this can be the basis of your register. Of course you can combine electronic and manual methods. In contoroll you can book a series of repetitive transactions in advance.

  • 5 - When shall I enter my spendings manually, when is it recommended to import them?

    When you spend cash (so there is no electronic track of this transaction), it is recommended to book this spending manually as soon as possible (even on your mobile phone), right after the transaction. When you pay with your card, it is recommended to use electronic import.

  • 6 - How can I categorise my transactions?

    There are more ways for grouping your transactions. The simpliest one is to sort or filter transactions by comments, then you can easily categorize them. We created a categorizing routine, which puts your transactions into the appropriate category based on the content of the comment fileds. This part of the service is a countinuously learning program, after a period of time more and more transactions will be placed into the right group.

  • 7 - What kind of categories can I use in this service?

    We created dozens of categories, which are organised into several 'main categories'. With subcategories you can use 4 levels of categories (i. e. you can split your living costs to heating, electricity, telecommunication, while telecommunication can be splitted to wired phone, mobile phone, internet or cable TV). Main categories can be overviewed simply, and you will not be disappointed if you want full-detailed categories.

  • 8 - I want to create my own categories. Is this possible?

    Yes. After logging in to the categories page you can create up to 20 unique categories, which can be renamed or deleted. Contoroll's default categories can not be removed or modified. Please note that the automatic categorization for the your own categories will only work if you create your own rules.

  • 9 - Why is the number of custom categories limited?

    +

    There are two reasons for this: We created category-hierarchy in order to facilitate monitoring transactions in an organised way. However if categories are distributed into many small groups then understanding charts and report sheet becomes too difficult. So applying too manye categories is not recommended. Another reason is the algorithm we are using for categorising. This method works well if most of the transactions can be categorised by similar rules. If transactions are distributed into many custom groups then we cannot create and apply general rules, so the task of categorising will have to be done by the users themselves, and we would like to avoid this. After analysing the experiences of the future we can change our minds, and number of custom categories can be increased.

  • 10 - How can I import statements into contoroll?

    Choose Import from the menu, here you can upload your statement exported from your netbank. If you do not know, how to export your data from your netbank then you can find description for several banks in this menu.

  • 11 - What happens if I import the same transaction twice?

    Contoroll filters out these duplications, so you have nothing to do with it.

  • 12 - Contoroll can really handle the statements of any bank?

    +

    This is not completely true. What we can state for sure is that all of the formats known by us can be imported. Most Hungarian (and increasing number of international) banks' statements can be handled in contoroll (detailed list here). We implemented a reader which can import unknown formats - after some clicks. If you cannot import your statement then please send an amended copy of it, and we will try to develop an import module for that format, too.

  • 13 - Only electronic bank statements can be imported?

    No. If you booked your spendings in Excel or other spreadsheets, you can import that into contoroll. If you have other accounts (health fund, pension fund, etc.) where statement can be exported, then you can import those, too.

  • 14 - What are contoroll's system requirements?

    You just need internet access and a web-browser. You can access contoroll.com from your laptop, tablet, phablet, smartphone. We have tested contoroll.com on the most popular browsers (like Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer). If you find an error, please let us know here.

  • 15 - Why contoroll is called as a family budgeting service?

    One user can handle more accounts at the same time, it does not matter if those are linked to one person's different cards or linked to different persons in the family. It is not a problem if you hold your accounts with different banks or accounts are booked in different currencies.

  • 16 - Members of my family hold their accounts with different banks. How can we monitor spendings alltogether?

    +

    You need only one valid registration. Since contoroll is device-independent, it can be accessed from different points of the world, even by different members of the family. They can create different accounts, so transactions can be clearly separated by person and amounts can also be sum up. So our expense tracker application will contain the cash flow of all family members.

  • 17 - I have problems/questions regarding contoroll. How can I reach service provider?
